The Langenheim House at 1315 Liverpool Street is one of the oldest surviving structures in the Manchester neighborhood and holds a special place in PHLF’s history. Built in 1833, it was among the buildings on Liverpool Street threatened with demolition in 1964 that prompted Arthur Ziegler and James Van Trump to found the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. PHLF and the Manchester Citizens Corporation rescued and restored the building, remodeling it for apartment use. Manchester was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and designated a City Historic District in 1979.
